Come usare una spazzola a setole per la toelettatura del cane

Quick answer

Use a slicker brush by brushing in the direction of fur growth, starting gently, and working through mats with short strokes.

Step-by-step guide

1. Start with a calm dog: Let your dog sniff the brush and reward calm behavior. Begin brushing on a relaxed area like the back or shoulders.
2. Brush in the direction of fur growth: Gently glide the slicker brush from head to tail, following the natural lay of the coat. Avoid back-and-forth scrubbing. Brushing against the grain can pull out healthy hair and cause discomfort.
3. Work through mats carefully: For tangles or mats, use short, gentle strokes near the mat. Hold the skin taut to avoid pulling. If the mat is tight, use a detangling tool first. Pause or stop if your dog shows signs of pain. Never yank the brush through a mat.
4. Finish with a reward: After brushing, give your dog a treat or praise. This builds positive association and makes future grooming easier. A good grooming session ends on a positive note.

The brush we recommend

• Ancol Ergo Universal Slicker: Whisks away loose fur and is an effective moulting and detangling tool. Its fine wire bristles reach the undercoat without scratching the skin, making it ideal for both daily brushing and mat removal.
